Portables finally open to High River students displaced by flood

HIGH RIVER, Alta.- It was a big day in High River, for students who were displaced by the devastating June flood.

On Wednesday, students from Holy Spirit Academy finally got to move into portables that have been constructed at nearby Notre Dame Collegiate. Their school is still under construction, after being heavily damaged by flood waters.

The kindergarten to Grade 6 students had been taking classes at other schools since September, and parents say they’re relieved the long wait is over.

“Everyone’s excited,” says parent Teresa Paulson. “It’s a fresh start, a long wait, but all the hard work has paid off..”

The 42 modular classrooms will hold 700 students.

In Calgary, work is almost finished on 12 modulars that will house about 200 students who were displaced from Elbow Park School.
