EDMONTON – A 23-year-old man involved in a shooting in southeast Edmonton Wednesday morning has died in hospital.
An autopsy for the male will be conducted, but the date and time have not been set. The EPS Homicide Section is leading the investigation. The death is considered suspicious.
Edmonton police responded to reports of a gunshot being heard at a home in Mill Woods in the area of 25 Avenue and 46 A Street around 4 a.m.
A 23-year-old man was found in the basement and rushed to hospital in critical condition with a gun shot wound.
Police say there were other people inside the home at the time of the alleged shooting.
Officers were interviewing possible witnesses as well as speaking to neighbours Wednesday morning.
“I don’t know what circumstances were leading up to this. Like I said, it’s really early at this stage and we have to talk to everyone who was inside to determine what was happening prior to the event, said EPS Inspector Chad Tawfik.
One neighbour told Global News he doesn’t know of any previous issues involving residents of the home.
“When I go to work actually, then I looked and saw five-six cops or something like that. What happened actually here? Then the police guy came here. They asked me many questions: What are you doing? What was your wife doing? How many kids you have?”
An autopsy will be conducted, but the date and time have not been set.
The EPS Homicide Section is leading the investigation, and the death is considered suspicious.
No one has been arrested in connection to the incident at this time.
