The single-vehicle crash happened on Davis Drive, near Highway 48, at around 4:38 a.m.

Police said the vehicle crashed into a hydro pole and then caught on fire.

“Emergency services personnel located a Chevrolet sedan that was flipped over, resting against a hydro pole and engulfed in flames,” police said.

The driver inside the vehicle was pronounced dead.

Police said investigators are still in the process of identifying the deceased.

“Investigators believe the vehicle had been travelling westbound on Davis Drive before it crossed into the eastbound lane, where it struck an embankment, sustained heavy damage and caught fire,” police said.

Davis Drive is closed in both directions between Highway 48 and York-Durham Line for the investigation.
