Residents rush from SW building during morning fire

CALGARY – Residents of a six-storey downtown apartment building were forced from their homes on Monday, due to an early morning fire.

Fire crews were called to 11 Street and 8 Avenue S.W. just before 7 a.m.

Firefighters evacuated the building as they searched for the source of the blaze, which was confined to the basement.

Crews eventually managed to get the fire under control, but had to use fans to remove smoke which had migrated to other areas of the building.

No injuries were reported and residents were eventually allowed back in.
