Small plane crashes on lake north of Guelph

A small plane crashed on a lake about 30 minutes north of Guelph on Monday night, according to provincial police in Wellington County.

According to the Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) the plane crash occurred at around 7:20 p.m. with police being called shortly thereafter.

“A privately-registered Quad City Challenger II ultralight aircraft crashed on a lake north of Guelph airport,” a TSB spokesperson said.

“The pilot and sole occupant of the aircraft self-extricated from the aircraft and was assisted ashore.”

As of Tuesday morning, the spokesperson noted that the aircraft remained submerged in Belwood Lake.

OPP credited people who were at the lake with helping the pilot get out of the water. They were the only person inside the plane, having been left with minor injuries, which paramedics at the scene.

“The Wellington County OPP would like to thank everyone who worked quickly to ensure the safety of those involved in this incident,” a release from police said.
