VANCOUVER — A 15-year-old youth from Surrey was arrested but three other suspects escaped after the brazen robbery Thursday night of an Oakridge mall jewelry store.
Vancouver police said Friday that a mall security guard was injured and a number of shots were fired when Montecristo Jewellers was robbed about 8:30 p.m.
"One man entered the jewelry store initially posing as a customer asking to see merchandise," police said in a statement. "Two other men were outside the store and allegedly assaulted the security guard while also discharging pepper spray. The suspect inside the store produced a gun while demanding staff open the cases."
Police said a number of shots were fired inside the store before all three men fled with merchandise from the store.
"Two of the suspects were seen getting into a waiting older model red van outside the mall which was driven by a fourth suspect."
The third suspect was arrested by police outside the mall after allegedly firing a shot from his gun, police said. A firearm and quantity of merchandise were recovered.
Police said three suspects escaped in the van. The 15-year-old suspect in custody faces numerous charges.
The security officer and one staff member received minor injuries in the robbery.
