TORONTO – Tropical Cyclone Helen, with sustained winds of up to 100 km/h made landfall near Machillipatnam, India, Friday.

Once reaching land, the cyclone lost some of its strength and weakened to a tropical depression with sustained winds near 60 km/h.

The India Meteorological Department, warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall for parts of Andhra Pradesh with winds near 60 km/h early into Saturday morning local time.

The Hindu Business Line reported on Friday that the Andhra Pradesh (AP) government was searching for 20 missing fisherman.

The state’s Disaster Management Commissioner C. Parthasarathi told local media that at least two people were killed in separate rain-related incidents.
