One person died in an overnight fire in Brampton, officials say.
Brampton Fire said crews were called to a two-alarm blaze at a home near Balmoral Drive and Bramalea Road early Saturday.
Peel Regional Police told Global News the fire was reported just before 3:30 a.m. and that two people were pulled from the home.
Crews arrived to find the home completely engulfed in flames, a police spokesperson said at the scene. Firefighters stormed into the building and were able to pull a woman from the flames.
Despite life-saving efforts, however, she was pronounced dead at the scene just after 4 a.m.
A man was taken to hospital to be treated for burns and smoke inhalation, police said. A third man was taken into custody by police.
The arrest, a police spokesperson said, happened nearby minutes after police arrived.
Police said the investigation will be led by homicide detectives and the Ontario Fire Marshal.
On Saturday morning, firefighters had the situation under control. Brampton fire said they would remain at the scene on fire watch.
