Viterra partners with Global Institute for Food Security

SASKATOON – Viterra Inc. is partnering up with the Global Institute for Food Security (GIFS) to support a mission to address the increasing global demand for safe and reliable food.

Monday’s investment of $2 million to GIFS is the single largest funding announcement in Viterra’s history.

The five-year funding will make Viterra the “lead” grain industry partner, joining founding partners PotashCorp, the province and the University of Saskatchewan.

“There’s a lot of experts here and that’s the reason why we invested in the GIFS, we don’t want to get in the way of the experts but we want to support them whenever we can,” said Kyle Jeworski, Viterra’s CEO and president.

“Viterra’s a major player in Saskatchewan agriculture and has been for many years and I think Viterra will find it a rewarding experience working with the GIFS,” said Lyle Stewart, Saskatchewan agriculture minister.

As part of the agreement, Viterra will also provide the institute with land adjacent to its rural facilities for research field trials.
