Mark Lafleur, the troubled son of hockey legend Guy Lafleur on probation for past convictions of assault his former girlfriend, was arrested Wednesday night in connection with a domestic violence call in Blainville. He was released, with an order to appear at the St. Jérôme courthouse on Dec. 14, his lawyer Mia Manocchio said.
Stéphane Giguère of the Blainville police department said he could not confirm it was Mark Lafleur until charges were formally laid in court. But he could say a 25-year-old man and his 20-year-old girlfriend were both arrested at their residence Friday night in Blainville, about 40 kilometres north of Montreal. The accused may face charges of assault linked to conjugal violence, Giguère said. Charges related to drugs found at the premises would also be laid, Giguère said, but it has yet to be determined whose drugs they were.
Lafleur was on probation following his 2009 conviction for several charges including assault, battery, unlawful confinement and uttering death threats involving his ex-girlfriend. He pled guilty to 23 counts, and was sentenced to 15 months house arrest. Under the conditions of his probation, he is not allowed to drink or take drugs or see his former girlfriend. Lafleur was released Wednesday on the same conditions, Manocchio said. The investigation is proceeding, Manocchio said, but the fact Lafleur was released “goes to show the severity of what its presumed he did.”
