Two people have been confirmed dead at a home in Kelowna’s Upper Mission neighbourhood, which was the focal point of a late-night serious crime investigation.
RCMP and emergency crews swarmed a home on the corner of Swan Drive and Trumpeter Road around 9 p.m. Thursday.
“This is a pretty quiet neighbourhood so, you don’t really see much of that around here,” said neighbour Braeden Callan.
“I heard two police go by at a high rate of speed with their sirens on so I came out naturally. I went down over there after I heard more and more sirens. They had a whole set up, they were carrying someone out on a stretcher, they were doing compressions.”
Police said late Thursday that there was no concern for public safety after the Swan Drive incident, then by Friday morning they confirmed two had died, though the circumstances still remain vague.
A third is believed to be in critical condition.
“This investigation is in its very early stages and is being led by the Kelowna Serious Crimes Unit,” RCMP said later.
“The BC Coroners Service is also conducting a parallel investigation into where, when, how and by what means the deaths occurred. It will be a highly complex and sensitive case with no further updates at this time.”
Global News spoke to neighbours who say a family with young children lived in the home and had only moved in about a year ago.
“It hits close to home for sure but like I said, this was a nice little neighbourhood and usually it’s very quiet here,” said Callan.
“To have police cars rushing down the street is very uncommon. Actually, I’ve never seen it and I’ve lived here for three years now.”
As of Friday afternoon, police were still on scene and investigators were going door-to-door talking with neighbours.
RCMP would not comment further and declined our request for an interview.
