Pilot dead after Ultralight aircraft crashes in Abbotsford

A pilot is dead after a crash involving an Ultralight aircraft in Abbotsford earlier this afternoon.

The Maple Ridge bound aircraft disappeared from control tower radar around 4:30 p.m., and a beacon was sending a signal from an area in the northwest of Abbotsford.

A search was launched, but was impeded by darkness, terrain and weather conditions.

Just after 9 p.m., searchers located the plane wreckage and pilot’s body in an area south of Highway 1 near Ross Road.

Pilot’s name is not being released at this time.
