Russian authorities say bus bomber’s husband, 4 others killed in Dagestan

MAKHACHKALA, Russia – Russia’s anti-terrorism agency says the husband of a suicide bomber who killed six people on a bus in October and four other insurgents have been killed in the country’s restive south after a stand-off with police.

The National Anti-Terrorism Committee said in a statement the insurgents died after police surrounded a house in a village near the Dagestan capital Makhachkala on Saturday. It says police unsuccessfully tried to persuade them to surrender.

The statement said one of those killed was Dmitri Sokolov, the husband of the woman who blew herself up in Volgograd. The committee says Sokolov acknowledged he built the bomb himself.

It was not clear if the operation was specifically part of a search for Sokolov. Authorities gave few details, and it was unclear how the insurgents died.
