Santa Claus parade takes over downtown

Santa Claus is coming to Winnipeg. Riley McDermid / Global News

WINNIPEG – Trot out the reindeer clichés and polish up the Santa Claus synonyms, because the Jolly Old Elf arrives in Winnipeg Saturday.

Global Winnipeg Morning News weather specialist Mike Koncan, who forecast a beautiful day with a sprinkling of snow, is one of the judges this year.

Nearby, the Morning News’ Derek Taylor will be hosting the parade with Tracy Koga for both the Global Winnipeg website and Shaw Television broadcasts.

Shaw, Global’s parent company, is hosting a block party from 4-5 p.m. between Fort and Garry streets, so if you want to watch the parade live, show up early to reserve your spot on the parade route and have some fun.

Finally, Michelle Lissel will keep you up-to-date on the weather from a parade-side vantage on the Evening News and provide parade updates, as well.

If you’re coming downtown, don’t forget that road closures will make getting close to the parade a little more complicated than usual. Roads will reopen once the parade is over.
