Crews were able to get the blaze under control within half an hour and contain it within the attic.

“We did evacuate the building just south of the fire affected building for precautionary purposes. We let the tenants back into the building real quick,” said District Chief John Bower, Edmonton Fire Rescue. “The building itself, no one was evacuated, it was empty. It appears it was under renovation.”

The extent of the damage and cause has not been determined.
