Province launches investigation into Calgary private school

the public school board of Saskatchewan is hoping to push the conversation around education to the top of the list in the upcoming provincial election. File / Global News

The province has launched a review of the financial management and governance of Calgary’s International School of Excellence.

Education Minister Jeff Johnson says classes will continue as usual at the northeast school during the investigation, which will be conducted by an audit and tax company.  The review will take about six to eight weeks.

“Through our inquiry, we will confirm that this school is meeting its goals,” says Johnson. “And, most importantly, meeting the needs of its students.”

The school placed at the very bottom of the Fraser Institute’s school rankings in 2011.

The School of Excellence’s 19 grade 12 students failed 89 per cent of their exams and received an average exam mark of 37 per cent.
