TORONTO – Mayor Rob Ford is being asked to reconsider his decision to participate in the Santa Claus parade.
This comes just one day after Ford’s office confirmed the mayor would be marching in the parade, handing out candy to children.
Ford originally wanted to attend this year’s parade as a spectator, but decided to walk along the route instead.
In a letter to the mayor’s chief of staff, Santa Claus Parade officials are “urging” Ford to go back to his original decision.

In the letter, Ron Barbaro, co-chairman of the Santa Claus Parade, cited the possibility of unwanted media attention on Ford taking away from the focus of the parade – Mr. and Mrs. Claus.
“Our request is simple,” the letter said. “Let’s avoid this distraction and put the focus back on Santa and Mrs. Claus.”
