Alan Alda to speak at Toronto education summit

TORONTO — Actor Alan Alda will be in Toronto on Nov. 18 to address more than 800 delegates at the Higher Education Summit.

The 77-year-old star of film and television, who founded the Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science at Stony Brook University in 2009, is scheduled to take the podium at 1:00 p.m.

Alda has won six Emmy Awards, six Golden Globes and a Drama Desk Award during his 50-year career. He was nominated for an Oscar for his role in the 2004 film The Aviator, which was partly filmed in Montreal.

The star of shows like M*A*S*H and The West Wing recently signed on to guest star on an episode of The Blacklist.

Also taking part in the two-day conference, organized by Colleges Ontario, is education expert Sir Ken Robinson, HGTV personality Bryan Baeumler, and former Liberal leader Bob Rae.

Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne will take part in the closing gala, which honours outstanding college graduates.

The Higher Education Summit takes place at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel.
