TORONTO – Today’s much anticipated city council meeting started with allegations of bullying.
City Councillor Denzil Minnan-Wong accused the mayor of physically blocking him from speaking to the council chair and “ordering” him to sit down.
“He stood in my way and blocked my path in a threatening way, in a way I have never experienced in my time on council,” Minnan-Wong said, adding he wanted an apology from the mayor.

But before the mayor could be asked to apologize, his brother, Doug Ford rose and accused Minnan-Wong of attempting to take the mayor’s job, drawing shouts of “shame” and “sit down” from other members of council.

After the five minute recess, the mayor refused to apologize, suggesting he was simply asking Minnan-Wong to follow the procedures of council.
“I did not threaten councillor Minnan-Wong in any way shape or form, he knows that,” Ford said, adding he had “nothing” to apologize for. “I did not threaten him in any way, shape or form.”
Councillors are in session today to begin debating a motion urging Mayor Rob Ford to step down.
