The Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of Saskatoon confirmed on its website that the accused is one of the church’s clergymen.

Police said members of the Interpersonal Violence Section completed the investigation, and the incident happened on March 11 in the 200 block of Avenue M South.

The man was arrested on Wednesday and released on a recognizance order.

The church said the priest has been placed on administrative leave, effective immediately and has been removed from active duty pending completion of legal proceedings.

The man makes his first appearance in court on May 24.
