Global News projects Kyle Kasawski will win the Sherwood Park seat for the Alberta New Democratic Party.
Sherwood Park is a provincial riding located in Greater Edmonton. Prior to the May 29 election, the riding was held by United Conservative MLA Jordan Walker, who first took office in 2019.
Walker collected 12,119 votes, winning 45.37 per cent of the vote in the 2019 Alberta provincial election.
Quick take:
While Walker secured over 45 per cent of all ballots cast in the 2015 election, the NDP finished a relatively close second in that vote with 40 per cent.
Depending on how the Alberta Party performs, the Sherwood Park riding located just east of Edmonton could be a fiercely contested battleground for both the UCP and NDP, which held the riding between 2015 and 2019.
History:
The current Sherwood Park riding was created in 1985 and has mostly seen either Progressive Conservatives (or a United Conservative in 2019) win aside from a Liberal victory in 1993 and an NDP win in 2015.
