MONTREAL – Fuelled by a desire to give commuters up-to-date travel information, Montreal’s Metropolitan Transportation Agency (AMT) has launched a new mobile application called AMT Chrono.
Available for iPhone and Android devices, the app aims to provide customers with an opportunity to “learn about schedules and the status of real-time service on the commuter rail network from their smart phones.”
“With this application, our customers will now have the opportunity to access clear and personalized information, no matter where they find themselves, allowing them to adapt their behaviour in the event of service disruption,” said Nicolas Girard, the President and CEO of the AMT.
“We strive to provide simplified travel to our customers and this initiative is clearly part of this vision.”
The AMT has been trying to reach out to its commuters and with its seven Twitter accounts (one for each of its rail lines), which give up-to-date information – and receive very public feedback if services aren’t quite up to snuff.

The new app is fairly straightforward to use – once it is downloaded and a profile created, train users will be asked to select a train line, and departure and destination stations.
This will set them up to receive customized notifications and track their train in real time via a navigable map.
