Highway 3 in B.C. Interior partially reopened after mudslide closure

UPDATE: A section of Highway 3 in B.C.’s Southern Interior has been partially reopened after a mudslide closed the road near Christina Lake on Tuesday.

DriveBC says the highway is open to single-lane, alternating traffic, but that motorists should expect minor delays.

An update is expected around 5 p.m., PT.

Earlier Tuesday, the West Kootenay District of B.C.’s Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure said there was good rainfall in the Kootenays in the last 24 hours, with Kootenay Pass receiving about 50 mm of precipitation.

A mudslide has closed a section of Highway 3 in B.C.’s Southern Interior.

That’s according to DriveBC, which posted the information on social media on Tuesday afternoon, just after 3:30 p.m.

DriveBC says the closure is just north of Christina Lake, between East Lake Drive and Paulson Bridge, and that no detour is available. Both lanes of travel are affected.

An assessment is in progress and an update will be issued later Tuesday.
