UPDATE: On April 11, RCMP said officers arrested David Tobin-Chisholm at a cabin in Six Mile Brook in Pictou County, after receiving information from the public.
Nova Scotia RCMP have cancelled an emergency alert six hours after it was issued Wednesday afternoon in Pictou County, as they searched for a man believed to be armed.
Just after 9 p.m., police said there was no immediate threat to public safety and residents in the Sergeant Lane area of River John, N.S. were no longer being asked to shelter in place. However, officers remain in the Sergeant Lane and Hedgeville Road area investigating firearms and stolen vehicle complaints.
They noted the stolen car has been recovered.
Earlier in the day, RCMP warned they were searching for David Tobin-Chisholm, 35, who was considered dangerous and could be armed.
Spokesperson Cpl. Chris Marshall said the initial call was for a person in crisis. Officers were able to locate Tobin-Chisholm in River John during a traffic stop, but he got out of the vehicle and ran away.
The alert, which was sent just after 3 p.m., advised residents in the Sergeant Lane area to shelter in place.
At 5:22 p.m., New Glasgow Regional Police issued their own alert — saying officers were in the Almont Avenue area as part of the investigation. That advisory was lifted half an hour later.
RCMP later said they were following up on sightings from the public.
Tobin-Chisholm, who is now wanted on a province-wide arrest warrant, is described as being 5’6″ tall, 145 pounds with a shaved head and hazel eyes.
He was last seen wearing a black sweater.
