Mounties said the blue Ikea rug was turned in to the Barriere RCMP detachment, however, the circumstances surrounding the rug are unknown.

The blood on the rug has been confirmed to be human, police said.

“Investigators are unsure of the circumstances surrounding the blood on it. The RCMP is concerned with the well-being of the person or persons to whom the blood belongs,” a Barriere RCMP spokesperson said.

“The RCMP is seeking the public’s help in determining the origin of the area rug, and to confirm the well-being of the person or persons associated with it.”

Global News has talked to Barriere RCMP, but officials are staying tight-lipped regarding the investigation.

On Sunday, the BC RCMP provided a small update on the file.

Investigators believe the rug is from the Kamloops region and is confirmed to be “associated with a violent criminal act.”

The BC RCMP South East District Major Crime Unit has assumed conduct of the investigation.

“Investigators believe the nature of the offence was targeted and that no danger to the public exists” Staff Sgt. Jason Smart said, of the South East District Major Crime Unit.

Anyone with possible information is asked to contact the RCMP at 1-877-987-8477.
