Manitoba RCMP say a man has been arrested following an firearm call that prompted a warning to the public in Selkirk Monday.
Shortly before noon police asked the public to avoid the area around the Lord Selkirk Hotel due to what they called an “ongoing police situation.”
In a release later in the day police said they were called around 10:10 a.m. after someone saw a man leaning out of a hotel window with a long gun.
Police say officers immediately cleared the hotel, blocked surrounding streets and put nearby businesses under a hold and secure.
A warning was also issued asking people to avoid the area.
Investigators say the suspect made his way to hotel’s roof, but eventually came down and was arrested without incident.
A search of the man’s hotel room found a long-barrel pellet gun, police said.
Police haven’t said what if any charges the 32-year-old man faces.
