‘Guardian Angel Andrew’ shoe line

Thirty-two year old Vancouver man Andrew Laurie now has the unique distinction of Guardian Angel to add to his title.

That’s after a world famous fashion retailer in Vancouver, Fluevog Shoes, named a line of their Guardian Angel shoes after him.

Fluevog’s Chief Operations Officer, Adrian Fluevog wanted to show his gratitude to Laurie for saving the store from looters the night of the Stanley Cup Riots.

It has been almost two and half years since the night the riots broke out, but only recently did Fluevog find out.

Laurie never showed off or bragged about his heroism.  He’s kept it a secret until now.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

The Good Samaritan recalled the night he stood his ground against looters.

“Myself and actually two or three other people stood in front of the store and actually fended off the first rush and at that point those people left and I stayed there because I knew Adrian Fluevog, who’s a friend through a friend, I know the family. So I stayed there through three or four rounds of tear gas and the police trying to clear the streets, and was basically able to stand there and fend off anyone who came.”

Laurie broke his silence after his co-worker decided his story needed to go public.

He still remains humble and looks back with pride.

“Pretty cool, it dawned on me. My dad is very proud of me and he went out and bought every pair that they would make. So he’s been wearing them around proudly. Any time I wear them I do get lots of compliments. I think it is something really special and I’m proud of the fact that I was able to do that.”

The company’s slogan is “unique soles for unique souls.”

Laurie will always have his angelic soul tied to a shoe store still standing strong partly because of his courage.

Looters never got a single shoe.
