Fire closes St. James Civic Centre

WINNIPEG – The St. James Civic Centre arena is closed after a fire broke out at the Ness Avenue facility.

The accidental fire, which was contained to the arena, caused about $35,000 damage, a city spokeswoman said Wednesday morning.

Reports from the scene suggest it started in a change room.

All programs in the arena are cancelled until further notice, a news release said. The city provided no estimate for how long the arena will remain closed.

The entire civic centre was closed Tuesday night but the pool reopened on Wednesday morning.
