Police have identified the victim in the Dec. 11 crash as 38-year-old Marc Ellis.

Investigators are now releasing pre-collision video of the suspect vehicle and the two occupants fleeing on foot before police arrived.

Ellis was hit by a 2019 red Dodge Ram pickup while trying to rescue a dog running on the roadway in the 3600 block of Lefeuvre Road.

His girlfriend, Amanda Wegerek, described Ellis as a kind, selfless and compassionate man, who had a way with animals.

“He was the most genuine person I have ever known. Selfless. Present. Just the biggest heart. He was my person,” Wegerek told Global News.

“Broken. I’m broken. I miss him so much. I have nothing now because my future is gone.”

Wegerek said Ellis especially loved dogs, having owned four, so it was not a surprise one of his last acts was trying to save one.

“He was the biggest animal lover. All animals,” she said.

Major Crime Unit investigators believe the two occupants were attending a party in the area before the crash.

“We’re appealing to anyone at this party to come forward and speak to the police, We are also asking the passenger in this dodge ram to come forward and speak to police.” said Sgt. Paul Walker.

“Every day since that day the two individuals in that truck are dealing with their actions, dealing with the loss in their minds of this individual that they were a part of and we want them to do the right thing and come forward and speak to police,” he added.

According to police, the vehicle involved in the crash belongs to a business in Abbotsford, but the owner is not cooperating with the investigation.

Investigators are choosing to not identify the business publicly.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Abbotsford police.
