Did anyone really ask for another whack of snow? Well, southern Quebec is about to get some more winter weather.
Environment Canada has issued a winter storm warning for parts of the province, including Montreal. A low-pressure system is moving in from Colorado — and gaining steam as it does.
The city is set to get a heavy snowfall in time for the weekend. The snow is expected to intensify Thursday night and last through the following day.
“Total snowfall amounts of 15 to 30 centimetres are expected by Friday evening,” the agency said in its updated warning Thursday afternoon.
Other regions, including the Laurentians, are also expected to get similar amounts. This is revised from an earlier statement that the snowfall could have reached up to 40 centimetres.
Winter weather will also descend on Quebec City and possibly be accompanied by blowing snow over some areas north of the St. Lawrence River. Meanwhile, other areas like the Gaspé region could see up to 40 centimetres of snow.
Environment Canada says the rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult, too. Drivers are advised to be ready for “quickly changing and deteriorating” conditions.
“There may be a significant impact on rush hour traffic in urban areas,” the statement reads.
Aside from heavy snow, parts of southern and central Quebec could see ice pellets and maybe even some freezing rain on Friday morning.
