RCMP search Nojack campground in McCann case

EDMONTON – RCMP searched a campground Wednesday just a few kilometres from where Travis Vader was arrested earlier this week.

Residents of MacKay said police had blocked off the road to the Nojack campground, a small rest area on Highway 16, near the town’s turnoff.

Police arrested Vader in nearby MacKay early Monday morning. Police described him as a person of interest in the disappearance of Lyle and Marie McCann. He was also wanted on outstanding warrants.

The search that lasted all day Wednesday was less than ten minutes east of where the St. Albert couple’s SUV was discovered abandoned last Friday in a stand of trees.

On July 5, the RV belonging to the McCanns was discovered on fire at the Minnow Lake campground, less than an hour southwest of the area. The McCanns have not been seen since July 3.

Vader, 38, remains in custody in Edson. Neighbours said police are no longer at the house where he was arrested.
