Southern Quebec is in for another round of winter weather as Environment Canada issued snowfall and freezing rain warnings for several areas Wednesday.
After the thaw in Montreal over the last few days, the city is expected to see a mix of freezing rain, snow and ice pellets starting Wednesday evening into Thursday morning.
“An ice accretion of two to 10 millimetres is expected, in addition to five to 10 centimetres of snow or ice pellets,” the freezing rain warning reads.
The public weather agency also says streets and sidewalks will become “icy, slippery and hazardous.” Montrealers are advised to “consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve.
“There may be a significant impact on rush hour traffic in urban areas,” the agency said.
The triple threat of freezing rain, ice pellets and snow is also set to descend on the Eastern Townships starting Wednesday evening.
Environment Canada says other regions will see both ice pellets and snow, also beginning around the same time. The Laurentians and Lanaudière could see up to 15 centimetres of messy precipitation — which could make for a tricky drive in those areas.
“Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations,” the warning reads.
