The southbound stretch of the Coquihalla Highway between Hope and Merritt has been reopened after a number of vehicle incidents early Friday.
A multi-vehicle incident was reported near Merritt and the start of Highway 5.
DriveBC also reported an unknown number of other crashes.
It said there were “multiple vehicle incidents” between Hope Exit 177 and Shylock Road.
DriveBC said the highway is now cleared and travel has resumed, although traffic is expected to have major delays due to congestion.
As of 10:30 a.m. Friday, the Alex Fraser Bridge and the Port Mann Bridge has been closed due to “winter conditions.”
Other highways in B.C. are also experiencing delays and closures.
Just northwest of Merritt, the entirety of Highway 8 has been closed to local traffic only.
On Vancouver Island, Highway 4 westbound is closed between the Taylor River rest area and the Tofino-Ucluelet Highway, due to downed trees and hydro lines.
Highway 16 was closed around 9:30 a.m. near the B.C. and Alberta border due to a vehicle incident. No detour is available for that closure, according to DriveBC.
Much of the province is bracing as snowstorms, heavy snowfall, and freezing rain warnings cover most of the province.
