Montreal Police major crimes investigators are still looking for one of three men who face charges in the failed attempt to kill influential street gang figure Ducarme Joseph, which resulted in the deaths of two other men.
Kyle Gabriel, 26, remains a wanted man after two of his alleged accomplices were arrested at opposite ends of the Montreal Island on Friday.
All three men face five charges in all alleging they took part in the March 18 shooting inside Flawnego, a clothing boutique in Old Montreal which is owned by Joseph.
The charges include the first degree murders of Peter Christopoulos, a well known drug dealer tied to Joseph, and store manager Jean Gaston, the attempted murders of two other men who were injured in the shooting as well as conspiracy to commit murder.
Carey Isaac Regis, 41, and Terrell Lloyd Smith, 27, were arrested in LaSalle and Rivière des Prairies respectively at different points of the day Friday. They appeared before a judge at the Montreal courthouse Saturday and are scheduled to return to court later this month.
Joseph is believed to have escaped injury in the shooting while escaping by the boutique’s back door. He was arrested shortly after for violating his conditions while released on an assault charge. He pleaded guilty to the assault in April and remains behind bars on a 10-month sentence he received.
According to a source in the major crime squad, Regis is "possibly" linked to Richard Goodridge, a former associate of Joseph’s, through a street gang, who later became his enemy. Earlier this year, the Montreal Police were able to have the license of a Montreal strip club temporarily revoked because they had information Goodridge controlled the club and feared the bar would become the site of a reprisal shooting.
