Woman, 21, dead after Mississauga, Ont. shooting, police say

Police are investigating after a 21-year-old woman was shot in front of a Mississauga, Ont., gas station.

In a tweet, Peel Regional Police said they were called for reports of a shooting at around 10:40 p.m. on Saturday in the Creditview Road and Britannia Road West area.

Police said a woman, 21, had been shot “multiple times” and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect, wearing dark clothing with gloves, is believed to have to have left the area on foot. Police said he was seen running from the scene.

Police initially said the suspect was male, before saying they were unsure of the gender during an update.

Officers said they thought it was a targeted incident. Peel police’s homicide unit is leading the investigation.

“When we got home, we have double doors, I locked them both,” Michel Chai said.

He was at the scene on Sunday in Mississauga to retrieve his car.

Chai said he was in the carwash when police arrived at the gas station on Saturday night, and he reported hearing gunshots.

Carmena Sandoval, also at the scene on Sunday, has been unable to sleep after seeing the incident, she said.

The victim was named as Pawanpreet Kaur, a 21-year-old woman from Brampton.

Police are asking anyone with information to get in contact directly or by making an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers.
