TORONTO — Here’s your first look at the full-length trailer for X-Men: Days of Future Past, the made-in-Canada sci-fi flick starring Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry and Jennifer Lawrence.
The movie was filmed this past spring and summer in Montreal, primarily inside the sound stages of Mel’s Cité du Cinema.
Singer said Monday the trailer is “primarily a character piece” because most of the visual effects for the film haven’t been completed.
The director said he is “a bit” ahead of schedule with editing the film, which is due in theatres on May 23, 2014.
“I’m tinkering with a piece in the opening that helps set up the story,” he said, “but I’m in a good place.”
Bringing the stars of the original X-Men and 2011’s X-Men First Class together in the same movie was “awesome,” the director admitted. “And slightly intimidating.”

He praised his all-star cast — which includes Canadians Ellen Page and Shawn Ashmore — for keeping the franchise fresh.
“They are great actors who know their characters,” Singer said, “who know how to bring them to life.”
Singer revealed that Scottish actor James McAvoy (Charles Xavier) was the biggest practical joker in the cast and said the funniest moment on set involved Michael Fassbender (Magneto), Nicholas Hoult (Beast) and Jackman (Wolverine) dancing to Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines.”
Canada has a rich history with the X-Men movie franchise. 2000’s X-Men was filmed in Southern Ontario, 2003’s X-Men 2: X-Men United was made in Ontario and B.C., and 2006’s X-Men: Last Stand was shot in B.C.
Several scenes for 2009’s X-Men: Wolverine were filmed in Vancouver.
X-Men: Days of Future Past is Singer’s third X-Men film.
