Aboriginal flags raised at city hall

SASKATOON – Aboriginal flags were raised in a ceremony at Saskatoon City Hall on Friday morning.

Representatives were present as the Treaty Six Territory and Métis Nation-Saskatchewan flags rose, symbolizing a bridge of inclusion with the City of Saskatoon.

The raising acknowledges the spirit of treaties and marks a climate of social change within the city.

“This flag raising symbolizes the reciprocal relationship that the treaties intended, and will further improve quality of life by promoting inclusion of all. We are all Treaty people,” said Tribal Chief Felix Thomas, Saskatoon Tribal Council.

The flags will now be a permanent symbol at civic square.
