SASKATOON – An Oscar-nominated filmmaker behind a series of documentaries critical of the oil and gas industry is in Saskatoon speaking out against fracking.
Josh Fox is the director of Gasland and Gasland Part II, a pair of films that claim to document environmental damage wrought by fracking throughout the United States.

Fracking, or hydraulic fracturing, is a process where water and chemicals are injected into shafts drilled deep into the earth to create fractures in shale that allow fossil fuels to be extracted.
The technology is used around the world, including in Saskatchewan at the Bakken oil fields in the southeast corner of the province.
Fox says it’s a process that contaminates water and puts the health of workers and residents near wells at risk.
