CALGARY- A dog owner has been fined over $3,000, following an attack that left another dog dead.
Back in January, a dog with a history of aggressive incidents escaped from its yard in the community of Mayland Heights, and attacked a dog in a neighbouring yard. The other dog later died of its injuries.
Animal Services said the attacking dog was designated as a vicious dog back in 2011, after a series of incidents including threatening people and being at large. It was put down in February.
The dog’s owner has since been ordered to pay $1,700 in restitution to the family of the dog that was attacked.
“We are pleased to see that victim restitution in these matters is being considered,” said Alvin Murray, North Operations Manager for Animal & Bylaw Services. “It is traumatizing for owners to lose a treasured pet in this manner.”
The owner will also have to pay a $1,500 fine.
