Three people were taken to hospital and one of them died after a serious collision between two pickup trucks west of Edmonton in Parkland County Sunday evening.
It happened around 5:15 p.m. on Highway 627, also known as Garden Valley Road, at Range Road 12.
In an update Tuesday, RCMP said one of the trucks allegedly didn’t stop before crossing the highway south of Stony Plain and was T-boned on the passenger side by the second pickup heading west.
The 58-year-old woman who was a passenger of the first truck was flown by STARS Air Ambulance in serious, life-threatening condition to the University of Alberta Hospital in Edmonton, where RCMP said she died.
Alberta Health Services and RCMP said the woman’s 60-year-old husband was taken to hospital in stable condition with minor injuries.
The 39-year-old man driving the second vehicle was also taken to hospital in serious, but stable condition.
All three people were from Edmonton, RCMP said.
The two damaged trucks were seen in the ditch at the scene of the crash — including a white GMC Sierra pickup.
Traffic investigators were at the shut-down intersection for several hours Sunday night. On Tuesday, RCMP said the collision is still under investigation.
