Regina and Moose Jaw bid to host 2013 JUNO Awards

Regina and Moose Jaw are putting a bid forward to host the 2013 JUNO awards.

On June 22nd the bid will officially be put in front of the 2013 JUNO host committee in Toronto.

On Monday, a recommendation to fund the event was passed by both city councils in Moose Jaw and Regina. The provincial government has also agreed to provide additional funding for the event license fee.

Those bidding for the event say the JUNO Awards would have a favorable economic impact to both cities and our province.

“Hosting events like the JUNO Awards is a chance to showcase our province and our talent to the world,” Minister of Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport Dustin Duncan said.

The JUNO’s were hosted in Saskatoon in 2007 and officials also say it was a great example of how the Awards can have a positive impact in our communities.

“The 2007 JUNO Awards had more than a $9-million economic impact for the province, we would expect a similar positive impact for 2013,” Duncan said.

The event would be held in Regina and Moose Jaw with ticketed events in both cities. You could expect the Canadian Award show to be in our city on April 18 – 21, 2013. The main awards would be held at the Brandt Centre in Regina.
