LONDON – Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip met 120 of the estimated half-million Canadians living in Britain here this week in advance of the royal couple’s visit to Canada later this month.
The royal couple spoke individually with Canadian soldiers and veterans, artists, journalists, academics, and students during an hour-long visit to Canadian High Commissioner James Wright’s official residence.
Among the guests were former Ontario lieutenant-governor Hilary Weston, 2009 Governor General Literary Award laureate Kate Pullinger, historian and Paris 1919 author Margaret MacMillan, and pianist Angela Hewitt.
The visit was prompted by the royal couple’s planned nine-day visit to Canada starting later this month, which will include events in Halifax, Ottawa, Winnipeg, Toronto and Waterloo.
Canadian High Commissioner James Wright has noted publicly on many occasions that Queen Elizabeth will be making her 22nd trip to Canada, making Canada the most popular destination for official foreign visits.
