RCMP say stabbing suspect not found in James Smith Cree Nation

Saskatchewan RCMP issued an alert saying that Myles Sanderson, the suspect in multiple fatal stabbings, is not in James Smith Cree Nation.

Melfort RCMP said earlier Tuesday there were reports of possible sightings of Myles Sanderson in the area, and an emergency alert went out telling people in the area to seek shelter.

 

Police said that with Sanderson’s whereabouts still unknown, the public should take the appropriate precautions.

If you have any information about Myles Sanderson, you’re asked to call 9-1-1.

Meanwhile, Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe reacted to the stabbings, noting that he was concerned, but confident that law enforcement will catch Myles Sanderson.

“I have no doubt the RCMP and the relevant authorities will find him. Sooner, rather than later I think would be everyone’s preference, including the enforcement authorities,” said Moe.

He added that help is being offered to the victims and the victims’ families through victims services and mental health supports.

Moe said the RCMP are also getting support from outside the province.

“The provincial command centre has been set up to ensure that there’s a free flow and the media flow of information to all those that are relevant.”

Moe said addition supports are going to be needed, and that he mentioned that to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

“I had indicated that to the Prime Minister when we spoke, and we’ll have to work together with the local community ensuring those supports are being provided,” added Moe.
