TORONTO – Typhoon Francisco passed by the western side of the small island of Guam on Thursday.

The typhoon had maximum sustained winds of 157 km/h.Tropical storm warnings had been issued for the island.

Though the storm was moving to the north-northeast, it is expected to take a turn to the northwest.

That track could take it to the southern part of Japan.
