Man gets life in prison for role in beating death

PRINCE ALBERT, Sask. – A man will spend at least the next 15 years in prison after being convicted of second-degree murder.

Wayne Moshenko, 39, was sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 15 years in the beating death of Ricky Bear in August 2011.

Moshenko and Cody Walker were charged after Bear was found dead in a rural area southeast of Prince Albert.

The three had been drinking and left the Muskoday First Nation but ended up getting stuck on a rutted road.

Walker then hit Bear and Moshenko joined in before Bear was eventually beaten to death.

Moshenko was found guilty last week after a jury deliberated for 90 minutes.

He was handed the sentence on Wednesday in Prince Albert’s Court of Queen’s Bench.

Walker was given 10 years in prison for his involvement in Bear’s death.
