BUENOS AIRES, Argentina – The groom is 103 years old. The bride is 99. And after 80 years together, this Paraguayan couple has finally tied the knot in the eyes of the church.
From his wheelchair, Jose Manuel Riella married Martina Lopez Saturday in the backyard of their home, some 320 kilometres north of the capital, Asuncion.
Priest Christian Paiva led the religious ceremony and he told The Associated Press Wednesday that the couple had been married by law for 40 years but not by the church.
At 103, Riella has some hearing problems but still recognizes his family members. His wife still takes care of all home chores.
The couple has eight children, 50 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and 20 great-great grandchildren.
