Muslims all over the world are celebrating Eid al-Adha by sacrificing sheep, goats, cows or camels.

The religious holiday is one of the most significant festivals on the Muslim calendar and lasts for four days.

The celebrations commemorate the biblical story of Abraham, who was on the verge of sacrificing his son to obey God’s command, when God interceded by substituting a ram in the child’s place.

It is customary for Muslim families to share the slaughtered meat among family members.
