New Yorkers and tourists got quite a surprise Thursday when Paul McCartney showed up to play an impromptu concert in Times Square.
McCartney made the announcement on Twitter around noon. The plaza quickly filled with people, most of them holding up cell phones to capture the moment.

The Beatles legend performed four songs from his new album New, which goes on sale Oct. 14.
