Parents are asking questions after an incident at Vancouver’s Killarney Secondary for the second straight day.
Police were called to the school on Thursday morning after what police call “credible reports” of someone in the school with a weapon.
Students were put on lockdown and officers went room to room after someone was seen carrying an axe, the school board said.
The search concluded without finding any suspect and no injuries were reported.
A day earlier, the school was evacuated after a bear spray attack.
The situation has parents wondering if police liaison officers should return to Vancouver schools.
“Think about it. You got all these kids going through this situation wondering what the hell is going on. Some of the parents don’t speak English really well, so they don’t understand what’s going on. And they don’t know how to help their kids. So having a liaison who works in the community, lives in the community — it’s a no-brainer,” parent Harbie Bahd said.
The school board voted to end the school liaison officer program last year.
