UPDATE: Terrace RCMP confirmed on Wednesday that the body of Devlin Sabo was found by Terrace SAR early in the morning approximately six kilometres up Fiddler Creek near the Skeena River. The matter has now been turned over to the coroner.
Previous story:
The search for one man who went missing more than two weeks ago is back on today after his companion was found alive Monday night. However, Terrace Search and Rescue leader Dave Jephson says, “they believe we’re on a recovery condition.”
26-year old Ike Murray was found alive by CN workers along tracks near Cedarville but his friend, Mike Devlin Sabo, is still missing. Jephson says the survivor, Ike Murray, has been telling authorities that his friend passed away.
Murray is currently in hospital in stable condition.
Jephson told Global that Murray said he and Sabo covered a huge amount of distance over the course of a few days but that after the second day, they sat and waited for six days believing they were going to get rescued. When they could no longer see or hear helicopters, they began to move. After Sabo passed away, Murray said he went 5.8 kilometres in two days, following the contours of the slopes in the area to make it to the railway, where he was found.
The two men were mushroom picking with Sabo’s brother on September 22 and arranged to meet back up that afternoon.
However, Murray and Sabo did not return and Sabo’s brother alerted the police.
A search began on September 23, but the official search was called off on September 29 when the men were not found. However, the families continued their own search for the two men up until the day Murray was found.
Jephson says the Terrace SAR will be going in at first light on Wednesday morning in two teams of four to concentrate in the area along Fiddler Creek.
